Blue Ribbon weaner sales maintain opening trends and week 2 winds down

The second week of weaner sales at NVLX Barnawartha winds up today with Landmark and Elders offering about 2300 Hereford, Hereford cross and Euro mixed-sex calves.

Thursday’s sales saw 3774 head sold through Brian Unthank Rural, Paull and Scollard, Peter Ruaro Rodwells and Schubert Boers , with 1870 sold by Corcoran Parker on Wednesday, maintaining price expectations set in the first week.

Speaking to NVLX online, Tara Brewer, “Brewer Beef” Tallangatta Valley, said heavier weights this year helped make up for a drop in price.

“They're probably 20 to 30 kilos heavier than last year’s weaners, which made a lot more, but with the weight difference we’re quite happy with the prices today. They topped at $1285, we’re quite happy.,” Mrs Brewer told NVLX.

She said the sales were a good opportunity to showcase stock ahead of Beef Week and Brewer Beef’s on-farm bull sales, on February 16.

Friday’s final Blue Ribbon feature sale starts at 10.30am.
