Two weeks of Barnawartha Blue Ribbon weaner sales close with Elders Landmark mixed breed sales

A hectic two weeks of Blue Ribbon weaner sales at Barnawartha’s Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange closed on Friday afternoon with the focus now turning to female lines.

Elders and Landmark’s premier annual Hereford, Euro and other mixed breed grown and weaner sale featured 3000 calves, prepared especially for the January feature.

“It certainly exceeded our expectations pre-sale and was really a great way to round out two weeks of real solid selling at Barnawartha,” Elders agent Brett Shea told Fairfax Media after Friday’s sales.

“We’ve had six sales in total, and to get the cattle in and out like we have day after day has been a logistical exercise by all agents and all carriers.

“And the results have been excellent also.”

The selling focus now turns to the female feature sales which open on Wednesday, January 17, with the F1 females.

“We’ve had two solid weeks, we’ve got one more week to go with our female sales next week,” Corcoran Parker director Cameron Hilton said in the Wodonga agents’ Blue Ribbon wrap-up.

“They’re kicking off on Wednesday with our F1 sale at midday at NVLX and followed by our beef bred sale on the Thursday at 10.30am.”

Peter Ruaro Livestock/Rodwells agent Murray Bullen expects next week’s yarding, of about 1500 each day, to attract plenty of interest.

“The females should be good, we’ve got a couple of big lines coming in next week,” he told NVLX on Friday.

“One of our Benalla agents have got cattle coming in from the north, so it should be a good solid yarding again.”
