Sale at CQLX Gracemere averages $5250 for 82 Brangus bulls

TWO prominent producers momentarily traded roles from vendor to buyer to headline purchases at the Central Brangus Classic sale in Gracemere on September 11.

Wayne and Marcia Maguire, Scrubbee, Dingo, paid the high price of the day for Bonox 1108 from the draft consigned by Bruce and Leanne Woodard, Tualka South, Taroom.

Just 36 months-old and tipping the scales at 864kg, he sold for $15,000, almost three times the sale average.

In the end buyers spent $430.500 on 82 bulls, to return an average of $5250 and a clearance rate of 79pc.

Mr Maguire thought his was a prudent purchase.

"He is our sort of bull," Mr Maguire said, adding he would be joined to Brangus cows.

"He has quality, size and is a good mover. I am quite hopeful he will do good things for us."

The son of Bonox 719 and Bonox B646, Bonox 1108 boasted an EMA of 130 sq cm, P8 and rib fat measurements of 10mm and 7mm respectively and scrotum circumference of 40cm with 80pc progressive motility.

Lawson Geddes junior, Couti-Outi, Stanage paid the next highest price of the day when bids on Coolabah Guvnor, offered by Paul and Denise Studt, Coolabah Park, Capella, stopped at $13,500.

Guvnor, a son of Collabah David (P) PDS15R1994 and Coolabah Bella (P) PDS12R1450 with am EMA of 126 sq cm, weight of 944kg and scrotum circumference of 37cm, was previously sashed as junior and grand champion Bos Indicus bull at the Springsure show.

"He has plenty of length and plenty of meat on him," Mr Geddes said. "He has a good head and he looks to be a right sort of bull for siring. Hopefully he he can go into our herd and do something really good.

"I was always interested in buying him if we could. I saw him in the paper but you never really know until you can get the chance to have a good look."

"He was at Springsure and we've got country at there and I had heard from some people out that way that he was a good bull. Anyway I liked him when I saw him and that was it.

"I hope he keeps us going in the direction we're on by adding a bit of length. We're mainly commercial breeders and here's hoping he will sire some good bullocks and also produce some nice bulls we can put back into our herd."

Volume buyer honours were shared between DW and J Godwin (average $3750) and Reaco Pty Ltd ($3500), who bought six bulls apiece, and the big spender was Windsorvale Grazing ($33,000.)

Sales spokesman Julian Laver said tough economic and weather conditions were telling factors in lower prices and clearance compared with previous years.

"But it is a credit to the vendors and buyer to continue to show the support they do," Mr Laver said.
